  Description:

Maritime VHF survivor locating devices employing Digital Selective Calling (DSC Class M); Harmonised Standard for access to radio spectrum and for features for emergency services

  Purpose

The present document specifies technical characteristics and methods of measurements for Maritime Survivor Locating Devices (MSLDs) (man overboard devices) employing class M DSC signalling and AIS position locating signalling according to ETSI EN 300 338-6, on the VHF maritime channels 70, AIS 1 and AIS 2.Class M MSLD (man overboard devices) are included in group A Autonomous Maritime Radio Devices (AMRDs) according to Recommendation ITU-R M.2135.0. The present document incorporates the relevant provisions of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) radio regulations included in Recommendation ITU-R M.493-15 and Recommendation ITU-R M.1371-5.The present document does not provide technical requirements for conformance with the essential requirements of Directive 2014/53/EUfor any integrated GNSS receiver providing locating function.NOTE: The relationship between the present document and essential requirements of article 3.2 and 3.3(g) of Directive 2014/53/EU is given in annex A.
